botkier fall 2010.jpg

My first attempt at a short film was with the honor of working with New York brand botkier for their Fall 2010 Collection. They make the yummiest, soft leather bags and shoes... here is a tester of what's to come!

Francoise Sagan was a cult French playwright, novelist and screenwriter, famous for her innocent character portrayal that she would then twist around into a deeper means. Her nickname was 'the charming little monster', referring to her sense of writing.

A film was released in her tribute 'Sagan' directed by Diane Kurys and starring the fantastic Sylvie Testud. You must see this film. The french make the best films. So simple, and said so beautifully..

Some words from Francoise Sagan..

'A dress makes no sense unless it inspires men to take it off you'

'Art must take reality by surprise'

'To jealousy, nothing is more frightful than laughter'

'When asked if she believed in love: "Are you joking? I believe in passion. Nothing else. Two years, no more. All right, then: three.'

'I have loved to the point of madness; that which is called madness, that which to me, is the only sensible way to love.'

Marion Cottilard has reunited with her "La Vie en Rose" director Olivier Dahan for a Hitchcock-inspired short film for Dior. The noir thriller has some interesting characters, the main one of which, is a lambskin handbag known as the Lady Dior handbag.

Cottilard plays the heroine that gets caught teetering on a cross-beam of the Eiffel tower and it is unknown who will save her out of the well-dressed thugs in Dior Homme. The film is the first from a series of four installments to come out with Dior's seasonal drop of accessories and collections, including an especially fancy Dior Mobile phone that resembles an Art Deco cigarette case.

Cotillard will play a different character in a different city with each episode, the second of which is titled "Lady Rouge." A visual stimulant that seems to be popping up with most fashion labels as a new way of getting across who their collection's girl/muse is and what she is about.

Text from a daily spot to hit of mine; Geometrie Variable. She's cute too.

paz-de-la-huerta.jpg

''Paz de la Huerta is an actress who literally reveals all of herself onscreen. She first appears in Jim Jarmusch's new film Limits of Control naked and holding a gun, and is credited simply as "Nude." Next week she flies to France, where she'll promote yet another revealing performance--a stripper, in French provocateur Gaspar Noé's Enter the Void.  So when she showed up for her interview at the Soho Grand, we expected a candid interview. What we didn't expect was a cupcake, but lucky for us, we got both. Here, the confident actress reveals her dream collaborators, the difference between a sex kitten and a sex addict, and why she checks her e-mail at the Mac store.''

See interview here.

The past month for me has consisted of late nights and early mornings. I am sleep deprived and have grown a love/hate relationship with my computer, BUT.. it is all worth it! Keeping it as secret as I can... There is a new magazine coming to your shelves that will blow your socks off. I promise. There are some amazing people involved and a fantastic team behind The New Order Magazine.
Having gone to print this week, this is all I can share..... at this point. x

Stay tuned for MORE!

Getting back on track after the new year can be a slow incline, so I have been heavily inspiring myself in the hopeful result that this will in turn create ideas and motivation for work and outgoings.
One of which, for me, is the 1973 film 'Last Tango In Paris', directed by Italian director Bernardo Burtolucci. With much fuss surrounding the film at the time (and in fact still to this day) about the 'improvised' sex scenes in the film, you still cannot get past the shear beauty that some of the images captured within this film leave behind. Heres some to share.

With the recent hype over the new James Bond movie Quantum Of Solace, I had a look at the design team behind the ever famous credit artwork and design. MK 12 is the ideas team behind those image infested credits at the start of the movie, that keep your eyes following that lingering smoke from the first fired gun. The integration between font and image is wonderful and still lends to the style in which we know and love of James Bond movies.

MK 12 have worked with global companies such as Levis, Adidas, Budweiser, MTV The Osbournes and created graphics for Stranger Than Fiction. Have a look at their website here.

We have the International Film Festival here in Auckland at the moment which always showcases some of the most amazing films from different eras, different genres and from different parts of the world. A visual treat.
Last weekend we went to see the film 'Gonzo: The life and works of Hunter S.Thompson'. A controversial writer who throughout his career broke new literary and journalistic ground. His idealism and sense of the world around him enabled him to see the world in a clear and pragmatic way, quite possibly a group of skills best used in a written sense.

I think because of the time that he was in a position to touch his audience, this saw him grow an intense interest in politics and the evolution of the political climate and its pending movements. It made me wonder if his career had developed though out a different time in history what sort of mischief he may have got up to. Even more interesting is the the thought of what he would have made of todays situation. A man who lived and breathed America, it seemed as though the upcoming world issues at the time were heavily involved in his choice to leave the world. But made me wonder what sort of impact he may have had today to the extent that I ask myself could he have played a role in taming todays ongoing disastrous happenings.

Long live the words of Hunter S.Thompson, hopefully we can all take something from what he has said and allow his thoughts to impact on the way we see the world today.
