March 2008 Archives

The Whitney Biennial is currently on.    I highly recommend visiting the museum at this time.   The theme is social networks.  Think facebook ladies.   A lot of the work is based on artist and audience collaboration.

Today there are more artists working in more genres, using more varieties of material, and moving among more geographic locations than ever before. By exploring the networks that exist among contemporary artists and the work they create, the Biennial characterizes the state of American art today.

curated by two women, i love this,  Henrietta Huldisch and
Shamin Momin

Huldisch calls all this a philosophy of "lessness," while Momin identifies it as a recognition that progress is a sham and, moreover, computer programs and the Internet and time and space and life itself exist as open-ended feedback loops rather than linear stories with clear ends. "Something we found across a range of media and themes," says Huldisch, "is a tendency toward smaller, more localized gestures, a modesty of material in approach and scale, a non-monumental quality."

Mammoth Lakes Ca.  , a skiers and snowboarders paradise goes upscale.

I recommend the village or the new Westin hotel that just opened in January 2008.    The Westin has a great new restaurant, totally upscale and gourmet.    If you prefer something simple and more kid friendly try Hennesey's in the village for burgers, fish and chicken.

The mammoth inn was recently renovated but I have not seen it.    I prefer to ride the canyon side of the mountain and take the gondola up to avoid parking so the Westin and Village are preferable.   The Village has heated underground parking and both have heated outdoor pools for a little apres ski fun.   Both offer full kitchens in each condo so you can bring snacks and dine in if you like.

I I also love to walk in the village for dinner and swim in the heated pool after a long day on the slopes.

mammoth is so pretty this time of year and you cant beat it for consistent weather.    I have almost always had perfectly sunny weather from feb -april .

my only regret is the 5 hour drive from LA.   If you can make it, its totally worth it.

Kermit the frog, the original Jim Henson puppet is putting models out of business.   Go figure ladies, the little green guy  is getting all the attention.   The one and only, OG Kermit  showed up with an entourage of puppet "handlers" and posed for zany lensmen Terry Richardson.    Kermit will also be adorning Supreme skateboard decks this season.   Porn stars are out and Kermit is in.   Yeah.
