Great little Group show I am a part of. Mastermind Jackie Saccoccio whipped this little baby up in conjunction with Art Production Fund. My contribution is the logo/decal in the photo and some very shiny silver rocks. Go see it, it's in Soho until Tuesday morning.

Art Production Fund is pleased to announce the opening of APF LAB, an experimental art space. Occupying a storefront on 15 Wooster Street, generously donated by Soho Mews, APF LAB will invite artists to use this public venue in innovative ways. Projects will last from one day to undefined amounts of time and range from installations and performances visible only from the street to highly participatory environments within the room. APF LAB aims to offer an environment that is completely open to the artists' vision.

BlueBalls, the inaugural project for APF LAB, examines the transitory nature of the creative moment, the acquisitive character of the viewer and the curious longing that occurs between the two. Conceived by artist Jackie Saccoccio, artists have been invited to self- install and work atop one another's pieces in the space with the premise of desire and denial as their muse. By installing their own works in staggered timeframes, layering one over another, the end results become the compound of this transitory experience of the creative act. Poised behind a glass façade, this collaborative artist project will transform weekly as the next round of artists amplifies the collective.

Situated in a narrow storefront, the space itself becomes the first participant of the project. A playful hierarchy of entry, procession and invitation is established and evaporates as one advances to the top of the entry stairs, where the viewer is met by an imposing column. Asserting itself in front of the bulk of the space, it acts at once as maitre-de and bouncer. BlueBalls is visually accessible from the street during the extended installation period from October 27 - December 7.

Artist, Alix Pearlstein's emotionally exposed and exposing new video installation at the Kitchen is a must see. Anyone searching for some depth after the party will be seriously rewarded. The show consists of a four channel video projection and two single channel pieces. Don't miss the back-room. The four channel piece investigates group and team dynamics through differing perspectives and personal struggle. The two single channel works investigate competition without rose colored lenses. Don't look for a happy ending just a glimpse of beautiful yet tense reality called some kind of truth. Oh yeah, there is also sex and desire.

Ok, it's not this, but it's totally worth a ride around the east river. "The NYC Waterfalls" is the brain child of Olafur Eliasson, and produced in conjunction with Public Art Fund. There are four falls peppering the east river. The one under the Brooklyn bridge has the most successful proportion of armature to water, you'll even get a bit of 'waterfall rush'.

I met Silvana several years ago in NY, an ultra-charming nomadic bohemian with a sharp wit. She's a writer and I should have known that when I read her book the depth of her eccentricity would shine through. In "My Colombian War: A Journey Through the Country I Left Behind" she takes us through life in the coastal city of Barranquilla, Colombia, as a privileged young girl. Her privilege was a ticket to the US. In her story, she heads back to Colombia to explore all that she left behind. It's an emotional account of the adaptability required to live in the middle of a drug war. Her absence from her hometown developed into an insatiable curiosity that could only be satisfied by a series of extensive trips 'back home.' It's a great story, I can't wait for the movie!

friend with a dream.

I have a very good friend, Kym Canter, her day job is as creative director of J. Mendel. They make stunning lux clothes. But this friend has a dream above and beyond making the beautiful more beautiful... She has a bunny (an 18 year old plush) with model ambition. This bunny has enlisted Kym to make sure the world knows and loves her and kym is more than happy to oblige 24/7. Weirdly, it's happening! In the book, "Star Von Bunny, a model tale" she's snapped with all sorts of talent and fame, 'her friends.' This bunny and kym are already far far away from their humble beginnings in their respective suburban bedrooms and on their way take over the world or at least know it well.

Rock Star Princess at the Peninsula

I was recently at the Peninsula in Beverly Hills for a few days. My friend kept telling me I had no idea what I was in for, "it will make the Ritz Carlton look like a motel..." At first glance I didn't get it, sure an army of uniformed men descended on our car to carry things for us and the bellman asked if he could take anything to be pressed. All very nice. It became crystal clear the next morning when I ordered breakfast and it was going to take 20 to 30 minutes to be delivered. I said "ooh, too bad I really need a coffee. " then I heard!!! "I can send up the coffee right away" 4 minutes later the bell rang, viola, a perfect cappuccino. I caught on... we had a car and driver 24/7 and took full advantage of the spa. Felt a little odd when the staff backed up to the wall when I walked past, but I dealt. The next morning the cappuccino in 4 minutes was offered when I ordered my breakfast. Apparently, at the peninsula you only have to say "yes" once, I would love to see their database! On our last day we asked what time we should check out of our rooms and their response was "whenever you like" and I never signed a check or saw a bill ever for anything, ever. They have perfected the art of the fantasy and I was just a novice I can just imagine where I could take this, with a little practice.
