If you are in NY and love to shop, check out "My Amazing Friends" put together by one of the worlds premiere shoppers, Kim Hastreiter of Paper Magazine. She has asked her creative BFF's to make unique products to sell at Partners & Spade, a new conceptual store put together by the innovative minds of Andy Spade and Anthony Sperduti. This store houses an ever-changing treasure trove of products resulting from the divine and complex union of art and design. I made some new goodies for the event, take a peek and keep the love of consumerism alive.

The Art of Exchange
Karen Kimmel & New Editions' Stencil Workshop

Sunday, May 17, 2-5pm

Karen Kimmel's Stencil Workshop encourages children to make their own mark by drawing with her nature-inspired stencils. Through this process children learn to connect with their creativity and explore abstraction. For this workshop Kimmel has created a new set of stencils from her prints created especially for New Editions.

Come draw, explore and create your own work of art!

Over the last few years I have been lucky enough to get to know and work with some of the artist's at Creative Growth in Oakland, CA, one of the most established art centers for adults with developmental disabilities in the country. I also have an incredibly talented friend Cheryl Dunn, a documentary film maker who has been trying to put the pieces together to make a doc on Creative Growth. Inspired to help Cheryl and Creative Growth get some bills together to get this project off the ground. I hit up a dear/talented friend at Marc Jacobs and proposed that MJ do a collaboration of sorts with Creative Growth, not surprisingly MJ saw the magic as well and jumped in.

The artist inspired merchandise includes eleven items designed by four Creative Growth artists: Louis Estape, Dan Miller, William Scott, and Gerone Spruill. The items include t-shirts, tote and shoulder bags and a clutch wallet, ranging in price from $19 to $35. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of the artist inspired merchandise will go toward supporting the programs at the Oakland, California based center.

I just went over this week to peep the goods and window display and the work looks lovely. Swing by and get yours and give a little too. It is a feel good shopping purchase, the kind we need more of these days.
