I am a big sister through the Big and Little Sisters program here in Los Angeles and its really quite rewarding and interesting. I asked my little sister what she wanted to see and she blurted out The Griffith Park Observatory! The new observatory policy is FREE parking and there is quite a lot of it !!!!! WooHooo... Plus, NO entrance fee, NO huge length to walk to get there and once inside, one can see the money on renovations was well spent....... There are three floors to see with interactive displays ranging from educational planetary formations, history of astronomy, a costume jewelry made "wormhole" and my favorite an entire floor dedicated to each of our solar systems planets. On this floor, you can find all about each one of the planets and their atmosphere, climate, distance from us ect. But the most interesting to me was to see how much I weighed on each planet. Yes, they have installed scales for each one...So, here on earth I weigh 123, but on Jupiter I am 291 lbs, while on Pluto only 8 lbs...It got me thinking, it is all perception..... all of it...the numbers do lie!!!!! If someone feels too big here on earth, screw it move to Saturn!!! I joke..but it did challenge my thinking...Numbers and perception. As women, I know to many who have at some point in their lives been adversely affected by the number of their age or weight...Being at the observatory showed me the ultimate reality, its my perception of myself that matters. Not a number...Any number for that matter. Not the number in my bank account, my scale, my birthday cake..I look just as good on Mars as I do on Earth even though the number would beg to differ....Leave it to the observatory to change my perceptions, it enabled me to see something I hadn't before ...our amazing galaxy and my own misconceptions....Lovely place it is. Check it out...
