Is the collection for men mostly?
Eventhough I do a lot of menswear, the clothing is stuff that I want to wear, a bit unisex. I’m designing for the kind of man I want to be with. Fearless! I like nerds, but I like them to be warriors. I’m showing in a menswear context. . I show for London fashion week, @fashion east MAN with people like Kim Jones.
It’s more of a challenge to me to work in menswear. I never really felt that I needed to compromise. It’s a bit braver because I'm changing the playing field for what’s acceptable for a man to wear. Im hoping a new generation of men will change the concept of luxury.
Your color palette is so vivid and graphic with a bit of an eighties flair, is this your signature look?
Yes definitely, cartoons, comics, computer games Keith Haring, Memphis tribal and graphic primitive patterns. Geometric shapes. I get my inspiration everywhere, season 07 the colors actually came from a packet of Wosits candy orange, green and blue.
Do you draw freehand or work on a computer to do your design and graphics?
I work more on the computer now. I always start with a sketchbook and a story though. Then to develop that idea I’m really into technology, pushing in and subverting it. It started with L.S.I. season 07, we made the digital prints through the circuit bending, my work explores technology, and the new forms of communication. I want to create cyber symbolism, a coded language so to speak with my clothing. The graphics are like logos, very recognizable.
I love the three dimensional aspect to some of your looks. The giant boxing gloves, the cardboard diamonds and hats. It’s so creative. I can see the styling influence here. Do you style and concept all your collections?
Yes, I like to build a complete world.
