On a lovely thursday night, a gal pal and I journeyed down to dumbo to view some of the works by talented documentary photographers at the New York Photo Festival. When I moved to NYC in 1997, Dumbo was a place where the artists dwell and set up shop. There were no fancy children stores, Bubby's was in Tribecca, today it may as well be the next chelsea or shall I say digital photo hub. Everywhere my curls turned, I saw one mega digital shop after another. Beautiful gallery spaces, amazing apartments, and trendy bars. The focus of the festival is documentary photography, which is amazing. We hit the opening party for, "HOME FOR GOOD," which was curated by foto8 magazine, a british magazine devoted to documentary photography. The magazine gets two thumbs up.
