The Intimate Line : by Elinor Carucci

Lend me your eyes, and view the new body of work by Elinor Carucci entitled, "My Children," that may leave a very delicate effect on any parent or people looking forward to parenthood. Be prepared for kisses and crying, feeling moments of aggravation and overwhelming joy. She is a unique portrait photographer turning her lens on herself as a
belly dancer, her husband, parents in mud masks, and now her children. Exuding affection and warmth, these images explore Carucci's relationship with those closest to her.

Today I was speaking with a friend all about childbirth, the epidural epidemic, first weeks of motherhood, dysfunctional families, and/or business! I am reminded that the first stages of motherhood is not like the Gerber baby commercial which our society socializes us to think that all babies are happy all the time. Nor will The Cat in the Hat waltz in and make everything happy and playful. She explains, "Sometimes you feel like you are in jail. All of the sudden your life is no longer yours and you are responsible and attached to this person for the rest of your life. The neediness, the crying, frustrated fathers. However, it's the best thing I've ever done in my life!" This is something I have never experienced. I love my nephews, one of them once thought that G-D stole his batman hat, and he cried for hours while I tried to explain that was clearly not the case. It was Mr. Big Wind. However, at the end of the day I return them and go back to the adult world. Hopefully one day, my blond body will experience that tortuous happiness! So, look for me on Jew date and we can build a happy annoying family together, never saved by Mother Goose!
