Profile:

I'm an Indiana native, seasoned in San Francisco, now living in the heart of Los Feliz. I spend my free time exploring people and places when I'm home and when I'm on tour with my band The Donnas. I love factories and seeing how things are made, and I document everything.

The questions:
1. What do you do? I'm a publicist that specializes in fashion and events.
2. How did you start? I asked my college roommate what she wanted to do and she said she wanted to work in PR. I said, that sounds good to me! Then I met a guy on an airplane that worked in fashion at Rolling Stone as an intern. He helped me get a job at DKNY in public relations.
3. What is the best part? Getting press for our clients. I really love to see their dreams come true.
4. What is the worst part? Working the one millionth late late late night in a row. But when the first model walks out on the runway it's all worth it.
5. What is your typical day like? Track all the Fed Ex boxes, work with stylists and editors on their celebrity clients or on the stories for magazines, clip press in magazines, pitch editors, track Fed Ex, call clients and give updates, think of new pitches, plan events, track Fed Ex for more samples that we have loaned out and are getting back, etc.
6. What makes your job more than just making a living? I love it. I love my job, our clients, the people I work with.
7. What inspired you and/or gave you the courage to break from the traditional path? Jason Valenta who I met on the plane that told me I could move to NY and could make it.
8. What is the next step for you in growing your work? Just to get better all around at what I do.
9. Who helped you along the way? Friends, family, stylists, editors.
10. What advice do you have for someone who wants to get into your field? Memorize everything you read, every editors name, photographers name, stylists name, look at style.com each day, subscribe to every magazine.
Bonus questions (If you feel like talking numbers):
A. What is the pay range for someone in your line of work? Start at low 20s and more senior can be 60 to over 100. You will pay some major dues but it will make you a better publicist.
B. Does the average income differ between men and women? I'd say more women do my job until you get to the executive level.
So there you have it: Facts!!!
