Karaoke seems to be popping up on my radar a lot lately. Last month Nike Sportswear at The Montalbán presented a screening of Spanish thriller Timecrimes. Director Nacho Vigalondo is a karaoke aficionado, and the afterparty featured an all-out performance by Nacho, singing pro and author of "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" Raina Lee and moviegoers.

Tomorrow night, I am off to a karaoke party. This being my first time actually participating and not just watching, I am already feeling some performance anxiety. It looked so easy in Lost In Translation. Maybe I should sing "Like a Virgin". In preparation for my singing debut, I decided to visit my favorite site Wikipedia which had some fun facts. The first karaoke machine was made in Japan in the 1970's and has been taking the world by storm since then via karaoke bars, internet, videogames, mobile phones and even automobiles. In 2003, Chinese auto maker Geely came out with a "karaokemobile" called Beautiful Leopard. And in London, they have a few "karaokecabs" rolling around the streets. I wonder what those sound like.

Japanese word Juhachiban refers to the one song that karaoke singers are particularly good at and which they use to show off their singing abilities. I guess it's time for me to find out which one that is. Maybe my favorite kind of song - one with no words.

WikiHow is one of my favorite daily website stops. I discovered it on my Google homepage a few months ago when I was up late working one night. The headline "How To Practice Airplane Etiquette" caught my attention, and some of the tips had me laughing at 2am, even though most of them are common sense.

Highlights from How To Practice Airplane Etiquette tips...

Don't get drunk during (or before) the flight. You may be having the time of your life, but your fellow passengers may not think so (there are airlines which don't allow any passengers on board suspected of being over the limit on alcohol consumption).

Do not make jokes about bombs or terrorism. The movies don't exaggerate, you really will be removed from a plane and possibly permanently banned from the airline over what you thought was a harmless and obvious joke.

Do not pack strong smelling foods (e.g. tuna sandwich) to eat on the plane.

Taking off your shoes generally will not be appreciated by your neighbors, but if you have to, it would be best to ask first. Removing one's shoes is generally accepted on trans-continental or other very long flights but always be respectful of others.

Hollywood's The Montalban has been transformed into Nike Sportswear's new concept space for Cinema Tuesdays. Curated by Flux, the weekly film series began in August with a special screening of Beautiful Losers and has become the hot spot for cutting edge films and events.

Coming up this Tuesday, Sukiyaki Western Django is the star of the show. Directed by Takashi Miike and starring Quentin Tarantino, the spaghetti western is an epic tale of blood, lust and greed.
