Chris Johanson's highly-anticipated solo "Totalities" opens at Deitch Projects on Thursday, September 4, 2008. The exhibition is a "contemporary living installation" and will include tunnels and space temples made from recycled materials as well as collaborations with Jo Jackson, Christopher Garrett and Kal Spelletich. Sure to be mind blowing, my ticket is booked for the NYC opening!!

Art documentary Beautiful Losers is hitting the streets, and its first stop is NYC. The movie premieres at the IFC Center on Sixth Avenue. And in conjunction with the release, Nike will be presenting a series of workshops called Make Something! with featured artists Barry McGee, Ed Templeton, Chris Johanson, Tobin Yelland, Eric Elms, Geoff McFetridge, Shepard Fairey, Mike Mills, Todd James, Cheryl Dunn, KAWS, Aaron Rose, Mr. Cartoon, and others. The youth mentorship workshops will take place in NYC, LA, and San Francisco and are aimed towards children. However, I might have to sneak into one!! They sound too fun to miss --- character design with KAWS, animation with Todd James, and zine making with Aaron Rose. Stay tuned for more information and photos from next week's Los Angeles special screening.

Art website Fecal Face just posted a fun interview with Los Angeles street artist Buff Monster. He took a break from painting for his upcoming solo show at Corey Helford Gallery to talk about life, his love of Garbage Pail Kids and his new work. "The Sweetest Thing" will feature a kaleidoscope of geometric patterns, kaiju-inspired characters, and kanji translations of Buff Monsterism's such as Lick It Up and Extra Creamy. Inspired by Japanese fine art, pop culture, and anime, Buff Monster paints his trademark imagery in Superflat style, blending pink, black, and metallic silver shapes into an array of squirting scenes. Check out the interview, which reveals more about his process and love of the color pink.
